Biographical Text
Anne Haverty, born in 1959 in Thurles, Co. Tipperary, studied at Trinity College Dublin. Her first publication was a biography of Constance Markievicz in 1988 followed by a novel, One Day as a Tiger (1997), which won the Rooney prize that year. The novel was Ireland's entry in 1998 for the Aristeion Prize and was shortlisted for the Whitbread award. She also was one of the writers who contributed an unidentified chapter to a novel co-written with well-known Irish women authors, Ladies' Night at Finbar's Hotel (1999). She became a member of Aosdána in 2000.
